ECOLUM Formalizes Strategic Partnership with the National Environment Agency (NEA)

ECOLUM is pleased to announce that, following constructive engagements and collaborative reviews, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU with the National Environment Agency (NEA) signing ceremony took place Friday, 12th September 2025, at the NEA Headquarters.

This MoU represents a strategic milestone in advancing national efforts towards environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and community-driven policy innovation. The partnership underscores a shared vision between ECOLUM and NEA one that integrates regulatory leadership with grassroots mobilization to address pressing environmental and climate challenges in The Gambia and across the subregion.

Through this partnership, ECOLUM and NEA will collaborate in several key areas, including:

  • Environmental Governance & Policy Support: Joint development of policy frameworks and legislative inputs to strengthen environmental laws and enforcement mechanisms.
  • Public Awareness & Environmental Education: Co-led campaigns to promote environmental consciousness among communities, schools, and youth networks.
  • Climate Resilience & Adaptation: Implementation of community-based projects focusing on coastal protection, reforestation, waste management, and pollution control.
  • Capacity Building & Technical Cooperation: Training and resource-sharing initiatives to enhance institutional performance, research, and environmental leadership.

These efforts align with The Gambiaโ€™s National Climate Change Policy, the GEAP III Framework, and ECOLUMโ€™s mandate to connect climate action with legislative utility, innovation, and advocacy.

Speaking on behalf of ECOLUM, Hon. Abdoulie Njai, Executive Director, expressed deep appreciation to the NEA leadership for their partnership and foresight:

He further noted that the collaboration is designed to foster long-term cooperation and create models of community empowerment that can be replicated across the region.

The signing ceremony will serve as a symbolic and practical beginning to a series of joint projects, research collaborations, and advocacy programs aimed at enhancing environmental resilience.

ECOLUM reaffirms its dedication to working with national institutions, international partners, and communities to build a greener, safer, and more sustainable future for The Gambia and beyond.
